The textbook supplied is Learning How To Counsel by Sutton and Stewart and this is an interesting, thought provoking, fun book to read, learn from and keep as a reference both in a professional and personal sense after the course is finished.

The coursework is supplied as a bound booklet and is presented in an easy to read format. The booklet works in sequence with the text book supplied and asks students to refer to relevant areas of the book or subject areas in order to answer the questions presented.
Your answers are your opportunity to demonstrate to your tutor that you have understood the topic and this work carries 60% of the grade given. The remaining 40% is awarded from your end of course essay, which is a 1000 word essay. Here a question will be presented to you for your consideration and this will require you to use the knowledge and understanding gained from the course with considered examples in order to answer the question set.
Upon completion of the course and sending your coursework back to your tutor, your work will be assessed, graded and your appropriate level of Diploma sent to you.
You are allocated 12 months to complete the course, however students have finished earlier depending on the time available to study.
The course is delivered solely via distance learning with tutor support when needed. Students will receive a reference textbook, a coursework booklet and an essay to complete, plus details of their allocated tutor for support via email, telephone or post should they require support during their time with the college.
Tutorial Support

Due to not having any placement element being a distance learning course, the course isn't accredited by the BACP as one to one observations and placements are necessary in order to achieve this. If wishing to become a practicing independent counsellor, completion of this course will enable many to continue academically in the field through institutional study and completion of an academic counselling course involving observational assessment necessary in order to become accredited by the BACP.

Course Duration
The Diploma in Customer Services is a distance learning course and all learning is done within the workplace or in the student's own time. Students are allocated 6 months from teh date of enrolment to complete the course with the average study time being 60 hours.
Entry Requirements
There are no academic requirements in order to enrol in the course. All we ask for is the willingness to learn.
Assessment
Students are assessed through a series of questions and an end of course assessment. The end of course assessment is comprised of a number of course related questions and ask the student to use their knowledge from the course as well as their personal thoughts and experience, to consider questions set, and to provide a thorough and descriptive response to demonstrate their understanding of the topic area.
There is no external examination.
Students will be required to meet an 80% pass rate in order to successfully complete the course and obtain their qualification. Upon successful completion a Diploma will be forwarded and the student's achievements will be recorded on the NewHorizons Open College Alumni Register upon request. |
